Car Security

AC locksmiths AutoCar theft has risen by 9 % in England and Wales over the last 12 months. That is over 113,000 thefts or unauthorised taking of a vehicle. There were also over 200,000 reports of theft from a vehicle. The greatest rise is theft of vehicles with “keyless” entry.

So what can you do to protect your car?

Firstly, leave nothing on display. I am often called out to car parks and I see all sorts of bags, CDs, cigarette packs, bunches of spare keys and all sorts of stuff to tempt the opportunist to smash and grab. If I know lots of people keep their spare in their car, then I’m sure the thieves do as well. It’s almost an open invitation to the car thief when you are displaying stuff in your car. It shouts Look how careless I am. Please take a look and see if my car is worth stealing!’

There is just one thing you should be showing the car thief, and that is a steering lock. Now you are saying “If you break into my car, you still have to get the steering lock off. Look and see if the next car is easier.”

Finally, you need to protect yourself against the illegal fob readers. These are machines that can intercept the signals between your key fob and car. It might be inconvenient to have to put your key in a special pouch, but these are currently the only way to prevent your signals being hacked.

In addition to my normal services, I am now offering my customers steering locks and anti-RFID pouches and wallets. If you would like to know more, please do not hesitate to get in touch via any of the methods on my contacts page.
